Kikaku Company Overview

Kikaku America International is a consulting firm that specializes in health care. Kikaku focuses on assisting health care companies and providers with business development, licensing opportunities, analysis and education focused on such issues as managed care, neurology, gastroenterology, dermatology, eye care, and senior care.


Kikaku was founded in January 1986 by Mr. Michael Sonnenreich, past president and chairman of the board of Kikaku America International, and his Japanese partner Mr. Hiro Yamagata.


PharMa International is Kikaku America International’s sister company in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. PharMa International is a leading health care communications company in Japan.


Along with its unique network of legal, medical, and business representatives and consultants, Kikaku provides its clients with creative advertising and promotional services. 


With its American expertise and its understanding of the needs of Japanese pharmaceutical companies, Kikaku offers a unique service tailored to the needs of international and Japanese pharmaceutical companies, focusing on the specialized planning required by pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and device manufacturers to ensure the success of those preparing to enter the United States marketplace, and those who are currently doing business in the United States marketplace and globally.

Why Kikaku

Kikaku is the Winner, APEX Award of Excellence, 2020 APEX Awards for Publication Excellence recently for our diabetes newsletter for endocrinologists in Saudi Arabia, called, TRESIBA® AND XULTOPHY® EQUIP ENDOCRINOLOGISTS WITH TWO POWERFUL DIABETES DRUGS: In Real-World Practice, Endocrinologists Praise Novo Nordisk’s Tresiba® and Xultophy.


Kikaku has also won a 2019 Gold MarCom Award for the newsletter, In Clinical Studies and Real-World Use, Tresiba® Boasts Its Status as Best Basal Insulin for Novo Nordisk as well.  This was a meeting update newsletter about sessions and posters at the American Diabetes Association’s annual meeting in Orlando, FL. The MarCom award is from the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals (AMCP).


Kikaku works closely with physicians and has an experienced team of writers, editors, and graphic artists to produce a live Webinar program that is authoritative yet engages the audience. The Kikaku team is also experienced working with physicians in the Middle East, having recently published many diabetes and psoriasis newsletters for distribution in Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Middle Eastern countries. Kikaku also produces several Live Webinars on kidney disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and heart failure in Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and surrounding Middle Eastern countries and an online webinar on Pediatric Respiratory Disease for use in the United Arab Emirates.

Peter Sonnenreich, MPP

President & CEO

Peter is president and CEO of Kikaku America International and director of PharMa International, Tokyo, Japan. He has served as a Board Member of Les Aliments SoYummi, Inc a food company. He also served as the Vice President, Pharmaceutical Sales at LaserLock Technologies, a company that authenticates products for the pharmaceutical industry.


Mr. Sonnenreich received a master’s degree in public policy and citizen participation at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, USA. Before joining Kikaku, he was a Searle Fellow in the Federal Affairs Department of the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). During that time, he analyzed congressional bills affecting the pharmaceutical industry. He came to PhRMA after his association with Searle Pharmaceuticals in Skokie, Illinois, where he was an associate managed care analyst and coordinated the company’s pharmaceutical sales to mail service and pharmacy benefit management companies. In addition to his work with federal legislation and managed care, he has worked in the areas of public policy, market research, and dermatology and ophthalmology business development. 


Mr. Sonnenreich has been awarded the Gold Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology three times for dermatology reports and writing. He has also won the APEX Award and the Hermes Platinum Creative Awards consistently over the years for the trend reports that he has published for the pharmaceutical industry.

Bassem Wolley, PharmD

Vice President

Bassem Wolley, Rph, PharmD, is Vice President at Kikaku America International. After receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy from Lebanese University in Beirut, Dr. Wolley left Lebanon to study and work in the United States. In 2002, he joined CVS Pharmacy in Washington, DC. While there, he obtained his American Board of Pharmacy and served as Chief Pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy/Watergate from 2004 to 2011. 


Dr. Wolley began his career with Kikaku as an International Sales Consultant and later became Director of International Sales. In his current role, he is involved in the development, coordination, and management of multiple medical and educational programs. He works closely with many American Societies. He is chief editor of all newsletters, medical reports, and published products created by Kikaku America International. He has built a huge network with international pharmaceutical companies in the Middle East, and thus has registered Kikaku with companies such as Novo Nordisk, Novartis, Merck, Amgen, Servier, and Hikma. 


Dr. Wolley is committed to connecting thought leaders with pharmaceutical companies and to creating effective programs for the purpose of improving the health and quality of life of patients.
